“Why Consistency Beats Perfection”

Many people struggle to achieve their goals due to trying to make everything perfect instead of focusing on consistency.

I hear a lot from people who “follow strict diets”, or “workout every day”, but ultimately, they don’t achieve their goals due to lack of consistency. Once they cheat on one meal, or miss one workout, they feel all progress was ruined and then they fall back into their old habits. What these people need is a sustainable structure that allows them to enjoy an occasional untracked meal while still making progress, along with a proper training program that allows them to train a few days per week and still reach their goals. Missing one workout should not be a reason to give up. Making progress isn’t about being perfect every single day. It’s about being consistent day after day and week after week.

The fitness industry has turned into promoting “quick and easy fixes” or very extreme solutions, when in reality that is not the solution. These approaches can help achieve short term goals, but it will not help long term and could actually make you fall off worse than when you started. You need to find a balance where you can meet your goals without trying to make everything perfect. Healthy and proper habits should be maintained over years, not days.

At PopovSN, I believe success comes from three simple principles

Strength

Nutrition

Consistency

A missed workout will not ruin progress. One unhealthy meal will not ruin your progress, but if you have an enjoyable meal plan that will help you not crave those meals that is what is needed. You can have cheat meals, but what is important is trying to make the best choices when possible. What matters is your ability to return to the plan and keep moving forward.

The goal isn’t perfection.

The goal is consistency.
